“Some old-fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat…”

Laura Ingalls Wilder

Welcome to Ballenger Farm & Homestead. Our homesteading philosophy is inspired by the slow and steady rhythm of God’s creation around us, Simple, Sensible, and Self-Sustainable. Every year we plant and manage three large gardens to provide fresh vegetables and herbs for our family. We preserve our garden harvest through a combination of pressure canning, water bath canning, fermenting, and dehydration.

We also have a small herd of Nubian and Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats that provide fresh milk and meat for our family. We use fresh, raw milk for cereals, and we also make our own cheeses, soaps, and ferment raw milk Kefir.

We keep a flock of chickens on site for fresh eggs, and we also raise the occasional group of pigs and meat turkeys to stock our freezer. Our aim is to reduce our dependence on man-made ‘systems’ and teach our children and others the old skills of being self-reliant.

From our home to yours, we want to share our homesteading journey with you. We want to help you learn and grow from our successes, as well as the challenges we have faced over the years.

Stroll over to our blog to read our latest musings, join us for an upcoming event, or experience our products firsthand to inspire you as you set goals for your newest homesteading project.

We offer a variety of trees and shrubs to beautify your property and establish an orchard that will bless generations to come. And when you are finished planting, you can clean up with one of our refreshing bars of goatmilk soap.

Every homesteader deserves a little down time…need a morning pick me up or an afternoon break? You can find our delicious scratch-made cinnamon rolls, crumb cake, pumpkin muffins and more featured at Village Coffee of Sunbury and Ethos+Co. Cafe in Westerville. Or enjoy our indulgent baked goods in your own home by ordering directly from us and picking up your order here at the farm. See our Baked Goods Page for ordering information.
